Influencing, Coaching and Performance Management
The Client
A Community Health Care Service (NHS)
The Need
To equip 400 executive directors and senior management with improved leadership capabilities.
The Solution
A dedicated CentreStage team provided a series of innovative learning and self awareness experiences to increase the confidence and capability of the target groups over 3 modules. Real-play, role-play and forum theatre were used to bring performance management, coaching techniques and influencing skills to life using the OSKAR model and the TA functional model. The role-players facilitated the roleplay and realplay sessions, and were required to give powerful, specific, feedback to the groups. This feedback was a key part of the learning. The role-players worked very closely with the delegates over each two-day module and had to be responsive, flexible and have great facilitation skills as well as their acting and role-play ability.
Client comments
“The role-players performing the Forum Theatre did a truly excellent job. It was clear to me how much preparation had gone into making it really good. The session was introduced and facilitated very capably; challenging some of the directions given, checking back about impact of directions with the group, whilst also keeping it entertaining and fun to watch and be a part of. I think the real impact for me was how relevant it was - how both actors played their parts realistically, taking the direction and acting convincingly, so bringing to life what good influencing looks like. The doctor character was played brilliantly - funny, convincing, with nice little quirky mannerisms to make it believable.”
“A wonderful example of what good feedback looks like”.
“Can you please pass my thanks to the actors from 2/3 rd Dec who were able to give me hints and tips of how to get organised and address my nerves prior to a difficult conversation meeting? It has really helped me to organise my thoughts and I have 3 very difficult conversations to have today! This part was above and beyond their remit and I appreciate the time they took to talk me through things.”
The Outcome
A noticeable shift in the leadership style of the target groups, and a decision to roll out the workshops to the next level down in the organisation. Delegates left the workshops with a real understanding of how their style impacted on their teams.
The Benefit
Throughout the organisation, staff demonstrate an increased willingness to address performance issues and as a result a more transparent, open style of leadership. The shift in attitude and behaviour is continuing to be apparent at all levels in the organisation.
